Seeing is subjective, mediated by time and memory. My paintings are an attempt to recreate in physical material the intellectual, emotional, and physical processes that comprise my experience of the world. As I struggle against the impulse to define and resolve everything, I realize that it is the moment of ambiguity when edges dissolve or marks assert themselves that allow a painting to breathe.  I want the process of making a painting over time to be evident. Each is a record of a sustained experience incorporated.
